A used gaming laptop needs a different inspection, for an obvious reason: it has spent its life at full load, GPU and CPU working together for hours at a stretch. Cooling is the first thing to tire, and that shows up neither in normal use nor in a specification on paper. So we load the processor and the graphics card together, watch temperature and clock speed, and write it down when a machine throttles. One that is fast for five minutes and then slow is worse than a slower machine that holds steady — because it happens in the middle of the game.
